SAN THOME ACADEMY HONOURED AS A GREEN SCHOOL
San Thome Academy, Bhopal Road, Dewashas achieved a remarkable milestone by being honouredas a Green School by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi. The President of the school Mr. Sunil Thomas and the Director Mrs. Hansy Thomas received the award at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. This prestigious recognition highlights the school’s dedication to sustainable practices and environmental conservation.
San Thome Academy is the only school in Dewas to receive this honor. The assessment and national level audit was conducted based on key environmental parameters, includingEnergy, Water,Land, Food, Air, and Waste.
The school has taken significant steps to integrate eco-friendly practices into its daily operations, encouraging students to adopt sustainable habits and fostering awareness about environmental conservation.
The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable.
The novelty of CSE’s Green Schools Programme lies in the fact that it moves beyond theories and textbooks and concentrates solely on ‘doing’. It is an environmental education programme directed to subtly sensitizing students to the environment through hands-on and thought provoking activities. It is also an environment management system that audits, through students, the consumption of natural resources within school campuses and helps schools become good environmental managers by deploying pragmatic solutions to reduce wastage of precious resources
